The XH Data Radio is a great travelling companion, and much easier to transport than some of my larger radios.

Here are a few photos of that part of the world

The excellent SW Listening blog has a great review of how the radio performs.https://swling.com/blog/2018/04/a-detailed-review-of-the-xhdata-d-808-and-comparison-with-the-tecsun-pl-660/ There are some good offers on eBay and Amazon at the moment to buy this radio. I find the bandwidth adjustment the radio has useful in listening to Radio Caroline on 648Khz.

My Duck radio in the bathroom seems to have a loose head, but still turns on and off. I wonder though if it is not properly functioning as one set of batteries have become drained after a week.

You may find some interesting chances to listen to Radio Caroline shows on demand if you do not have time to listen to them. https://www.radiocaroline.co.uk/#listen_again.html

Or other podcasts of programmes and information about and from Caroline on this independent site

https://www.woodleynet.co.uk/index3.htm

You can find out what is on Radio Caroline today and a week ahead here https://ukradiolive.com/radio-caroline/schedule

Or you can do similar on this site which is privately run

I bought this Duck Radio from a charity shop in Wallingford about 8 years ago and regularly use it to listen to Radio Berkshire on each morning. It appears that these are quite rare now,

I have just read the David Hamilton Book about his days on Radio One, it has an excellent account about the DJs who broadcast there in the old days and is a great read.

This can be found on many sites and for a change I will give you a link to the book on Waterstone’s site https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-golden-days-of-radio-one/david-hamilton/9780992711986

I can also recommend a book that can be obtained from Paul Rusling’s site and is quite easy to obtain from many online book sellers

I am only a short way into this book was written some time ago and recently updated by Hans Knot. It is very interesting, as was the era in the 80s when offshore radio came back with a bounce, first with Radio Caroline on it’s new ship the Ross Revenge and also Laser 558 sailed in later in the year and gave music radio an huge boot up the backside, playing much more music!

News from the Radio Today Site

Ken Bruce will host another all-day Popmaster quiz this week as part of Radio 2’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

On Thursday from 7.30am – when Gary Davies presents The Radio 2 Breakfast Show – PopMaster will be played every single hour on the half hour till 5.30pm.

The four top-scoring winners from eight initial heats will then play in two semi-finals for a place in the ‘All Day Platinum PopMaster Grand Final’ at 5.30pm… and a shot at winning the coveted glass trophy.

The first-ever All Day PopMaster took place in 2020 and was repeated last year.

On air this morning, Ken said: “It’s all part of Radio 2’s Platinum celebrations. Don’t worry we’re not having 70 rounds of PopMaster – instead, it’s eight heats, eight members of the public will take on eight platinum selling popstars.

“From 7.30am, we’ll be playing PopMaster every single hour on the half-hour. I will be interrupting every other presenter’s show during that time whether they like it or not – I’m guessing not!”

The eight platinum-selling popstars taking part are Gabrielle, Ella Henderson, Paul Young, Curtis Stigers, Heather Small, Holly Johnson, Will Young and Claire Richards.

A new programme called Black and the Union Jack will simulcast on BBC Radio 5 Live & BBC Radio 1Xtra exploring black identity in the UK.

The first edition airs this Sunday at 9pm presented by 1Xtra’s Richie Brave.

The series will look at the growing mixed heritage community in the UK.

Speaking on 5 Live Breakfast to launch the series, Richie explained why the series is important: “It’s a long-overdue conversation from a different perspective, which isn’t afraid to tackle issues head on.”

Sunday evening’s first installment will act as an intro to the project and an opening discussion around black identity in the UK.

Richie adds: “Identity is so complicated and I think we have a tendency to flatten the experiences of people, so we think that when someone identifies as black, or maybe someone identifies as Asian, then they have a flattened experience, and actually what this (series) does is add colour.”

Black and the Union Jack will feature names like George the Poet and will provide expert cultural analysis.

The series is a first, bringing 5 Live and 1Xtra audiences together. Speaking about what that means to him, Richie says: “It’s so important to me to make conversations accessible, so this is a window in for people who maybe don’t understand, or maybe have some questions about the black experience and want to learn more. It’s also a reflective mirror for those who are already in the community, or are part of the community.”

Every month, a new broadcast will air with different hosts and editorial themes.
