The Ern and Vern show was very entertaining on Boxing Day.  I have found a link to a recording of the showhttp://www78.zippyshare.com/v/bRaj0b34/file.html

The radio video this time commemorates Radio Atlanta from the Mi Amigo – the station that Ronan decided to beat to the first broadcast.  Tony Windsor’s voice is at the beginning of this video.

Finally how about this fabulous song I bought all those years ago!

Radio station all about radio set to launch

A radio station for the radio industry is launching next month, bringing the world of radio content together in one place.

inRadio will be an online stream aimed at radio professionals and anyone with an interest in what happens ‘behind the scenes’ in the radio industry.

It will operate from the UK but will target an international audience, with content from America, Australia and Europe planned. Regular podcasts such as the RadioToday Programme, Radio Stuff, Earshot Creative Review, and The Media Podcast will feature in the schedule, along with new and archive material created by radio people.

BroadcastRadio.com has signed up to become the main station sponsor in a two year deal, and is currently installing a new studio at RadioToday’s HQ, where the station will broadcast from 24 hours a day.

Presenters include former Real Radio presenter Guy Harris at ‘breakfast’, ex-Atlantic 252 DJ Enda Caldwell on ‘afternoon drive’ and freelance 5 live journalist Stuart Clarkson in the newsroom. RadioNewsHub.com will also provide hourly updates.

RadioTodayLive will use the station to stream live from radio events, including award ceremonies conferences. inRadio will also broadcast hourly news updates, and some exclusive programmes, plus special segments of archive audio such as bloopers, air checks and comedy radio sketches. Commercial breaks will be filled by adverts of interest to the radio industry.

Roy Martin, Founder and Managing Editor: “It’s always puzzled me why the radio industry doesn’t have a radio station of its own. Even dogs have their own radio station!

“We’re also looking to the radio industry to provide content to promote your station or the industry in general. Daily breakfast show trails, station sound montages or even award entries which highlight the best of your station are all welcome.

“inRadio will be full of parody songs, spoof commercials and highlight the best of radio around the world – I can’t wait to launch!”

inRadio will fully launch on 16/2/16 at 10am with an hour launch special. Keep an eye on its new Facebook page for updates.

LBC hires Alex Salmond for a weekly phone-in

Politician Alex Salmond is getting ready to say what he really thinks in a new weekly show on LBC each Wednesday afternoon.

From January 13th, The Alex Salmond Phone-in will air from 4pm to 4.30pm during Iain Dale’s show.

The new programme with the former First Minister of Scotland and leader of the Scottish National Party follows other LBC shows such as Call Clegg, Phone Farage and Ask Boris.

Alex Salmond said: “It is a great pleasure to be joining LBC for my first ever radio show. When I was First Minister of Scotland, there were times when I had to bite my tongue. However, now unburdened from office, I can shoot straight from the hip. I am looking forward to discussing all of the issues and taking calls from every corner of these islands. It’s going to be honest, straight talking with a bit of fun thrown in!”

James Rea, LBC’s Managing Editor, said: “LBC is the only national radio station which puts its listeners firmly in the driving seat, giving them direct access to senior politicians and people in authority.

“Alex Salmond is one of the most outspoken and straight-talking politicians with in-depth knowledge of Westminster and Scottish politics and we look forward to him joining our powerful line up this year.”

Piers Morgan to present on BBC Radio 5 live

Piers Morgan will guest present BBC Radio 5 live’s football phone-in 606 with Ian Wright this Sunday.

The pair will be on-air straight after the FA Cup third round matches to discuss all the action with fans. Journalist-turned-broadcaster Piers will stand in for regular presenter Kelly Cates for one week only.

Piers said: “I’ve spent over twenty years dreaming of being Ian Wright’s strike partner so when the call from 606 came I couldn’t say no.”

The programme will start at 6pm on Sunday.

Jonathan Wall, controller of BBC Radio 5 live, said: “Piers is never short of things to say about the game on social media so we thought it was time for him to face the fans on the UK’s biggest football phone-in – 606.

With Ian Wright by his side they should make a pretty formidable pairing.”

Piers last co-hosted a national radio show at talkSPORT in 2014 when joined Adrian Durham for a one-off drive time show.

Kelly Cates will be back on 606 the following Sunday.

Stafford FM presenter is released from studio

Stafford FM presenter is released from studio

Stu Haycock, Stafford FM’s breakfast presenter has been released from the station’s studios after being ‘locked in’ to raise money for the station.

He was locked in by management on Tuesday morning 28th December at 6.30am and they didn’t let him out until he’d raised £3000. He did this by doing a number of challenges, forfeits and running an on air auction. All of the presentation team helped Stu to secure his release with the target being exceeded on Wednesday afternoon after 33 hours and 26 minutes on air.

Stu said: “It was a tall ask, but I had every confidence that our listeners and supporters would assist me and they didn’t let me down. It was so heart warming to hear some great stories about how people were listening to hear the story unfold”.

The money raised will be used towards meeting Stafford FM’s community radio commitments, where 50% of it’s income over $15,000 has to come from funding and donations.

BBC Radio York relocates to Hull during floods

Due to recent severe weather conditions in Yorkshire, BBC Radio York has been broadcasting from the studios of BBC Radio Humberside for the last couple of days.

York’s presenters and producers, including Julia Lewis, Jonathan Cowap and Phil White have been based at Queens Gardens HQ in Hull after floods at York’s Stonebow telephone exchange knocked out lines to and from their studios in the city.

A video message on BBC Radio Humberside’s Facebook page shows the team from York in Hull, saying: “They’ve been an official emergency service providing listeners with information at a very difficult time for many people in North Yorkshire”.

BBC Radio York is having to use a temporary Hull phone number on-air for listener interaction.

The BBC local station is offering extra programmes and content in reaction to the weather situation. Other stations covering the area, including UKRD station Minster FM is also broadcasting and posting extra information about the floods.
