A tribute to Davy Jones of the Monkees

Sad news today that Davy Jones of the Monkees has died in his sleep of a heart attack.  My wife had been a long time fan of the Monkees, especially Davy.

We have been fortunate to see them in concert in the past 5 years, three times.  Once with Mike Nesmith and twice without.  It was only last year we went to the concert at the Albert Hall.  It was mentioned then that Peter Tork had recently recovered from Cancer.  Davy was dancing away as usual and both his attractive new wife (2009) and daughter both did dances during the show.

I also remember seeing Davy as a much younger man at a shooting of Star Games in Harrow.  My wife also made a pilgrimage with me to the Mermaid Theatre when he was in The Point there.  We managed to see Davy who was just about to go on stage. We also later went to see a performance of the show.

As somebody who has survived a heart attack I can only say that it is bad luck that Davy did not do the same thing.  It is a sobering thought how vulnerable we all are.  At least he died in his sleep, a shock for his wife and family.  I extend my condolences to Davy Jones’s family and to his Monkee colleagues at this difficult time.

I did notice this site which is rather touching
