GMG announce third Help For Heroes day

GMG Radio have announced plans for their third annual fundraising day to support injured servicemen and women.
Help For Heroes Day will run across both their Smooth Radio and Real Radio brands on 14th October, hoping to match the success of 2009 and 2010 where they raised more than half a million pounds for the charity.

BBC Surrey breakfast goes to six days

BBC Surrey’s weekday breakfast presenter Nick Wallis is taking over Saturday breakfast from next weekend in addition to his Monday to Friday shift.
He takes over the Saturday show from Joe Talbot, who will continue to present the Friday afternoon programme and the station’s gardening phone-in ‘Dig It’ on Sunday mornings.

Iain McKenna joins Heart Sussex as MD

Former Radio City, Original 106 and Northsound Managing Director Iain McKenna has joined Global Radio to run their Heart Sussex station.
Since leaving the radio industry almost two years ago he’s been running his own Marketing and Business Development Agency called Key 360.

Rich Williams takes over Aire breakfast

Bauer’s Radio Aire in Leeds has a new breakfast presenter as local lad Rich Williams takes over from JK and Joel.
He’s been with the station for the last 9 years having started out on the Street Team and progressed to presenter of the drivetime show.

Full Radio Festival programme announced

The full line-up for this year’s industry Radio Festival at Salford Quays has been announced, with new names including Jarvis Cocker, Jamie Cullum, Tony Blackburn and Tim Westwood added to the programme.
The three-day event will also feature the first-ever John Peel Memorial Lecture, which will be given by an as-yet unnamed ‘rock and roll legend’.

Rossie abandons Radio City breakfast

Liverpool’s Radio City 96.7 went presenter-less for half the breakfast show this morning, as Rossie left the studios to go and take his daughter for her first ever day at school.
The stunt came after thousands of listeners contacted the show and urged him to prioritise four year old Nancy ahead of the broadcast.

G Media secures UTV Media GB contract

Growing technology company G Media has secured a deal with UTV to create websites for 13 radio stations across the UK.
The agreements means new websites for stations such as Signal, Wish FM, Juice FM and The Pulse before the end of the year using G Media’s Airwave platform.

All In Media wins BBC radio text contract

All In Media has been awarded a three-year contract to develop and support a system for managing text and images that are broadcast with all of the BBC’s radio stations.
The project includes ‘visual’ services such as DAB scrolling text, RDS info and additional text content that appears on screen when listening to BBC network radio on digital terrestrial television.

Steve Jordan joins Yorkshire Coast Radio

UKRD station Yorkshire Coast Radio has announced Steve Jordan as their new breakfast presenter.
Steve – who is a regular voice on Asda FM Live and most recently was doing weekend overnights on the Real Radio network – will start on the Scarborough-based station next month.

Ofcom warns against swearing in songs

Ofcom has received various complaints about numerous radio stations broadcasting songs containing swear words.
Total Star Wiltshire and community stations Brick FM and Bishop FM were all found in breach of licence, whilst complaints against BBC Radio 1, BBC Essex and Capital FM were resolved.

Juice FM Liverpool to move buildings

Liverpool’s 107.6 Juice FM is to move into brand new facilities early next year as part of a £1.1m investment in the station by owners UTV Media.
The station will make the prestigious One Park West in the heart of the city’s Liverpool One site its new home, after almost 15 years in its existing studio complex.

Sarah replaces Morrell at Real Radio NE

Sarah Graham has returned to her North East roots to take over as mid-morning presenter at the region’s Real Radio.
She takes over from Jonathan Morrell who’s left the station after five years and is emigrating to Perth in Australia.

UKRD presenters get their weekends back

Presenters and journalists working for UKRD stations will no longer be required to work weekends, from October 1st.
Group Chief Executive William Rogers told that all staff will now only be contractually required to work the normal five day week.

North West radio folk invited to MediaCity

People working in radio across the North West of England are being invited to a special Radio Academy session at the new home of 5 Live and Radio Manchester in Salford.
The event – on the evening of Tuesday 4th October – will include a panel discussion about what MediaCity means for radio as well as a chance to look at the BBC’s new facilities.

Charles returns to Lancashire breakfast

Former Central Radio breakfast presenter Rob Charles has returned to the breakfast slot in Preston by joining The Bee.
The Central licence was bought by The Bee just a few months ago, and now operates as one station covering Blackburn and Preston.
