Celador buys Andover and Newbury Sound

Celador Radio is continuing its purchasing spree by acquiring Andover Sound and Newbury Sound.
Management at Celador, owners of The Breeze, says no immediate changes are planned to the existing operations.

Radio 2 drops Titchmarsh’s Sunday show

Melodies For You – part of Radio 2′s schedule since the 1960s – is to be scrapped as current presenter Alan Titchmarsh’s contract with the station comes to an end after four and a half years.
The 90-minute Sunday night show will be replaced in the short-term with a series of documentaries while controller Bob Shennan considers options for representing popular classics and light music in the future.

31 want Wales and SW community licences

More than 30 groups have put in applications to Ofcom for the first area being looked at under round three of community radio licensing.
They include nine organisations wanting licences in Devon and Conrnwall and six applications for the whole of Wales.

Tracey McNellan joins Global from Bauer

Global Radio has appointed Tracey McNellan as Managing Director of Capital FM East Midlands.
She joins from Bauer Media where she was most recently Station Director of Radio Clyde, and brings over 20 years of radio industry experience with her.

Media UK brings back the Pocket Book

The online media directory Media UK is to begin publication of a pocket book listing all licenced UK radio stations.
The book takes on a similar design to the original Radio Authority Pocket Book pictured here and will be available mid-September.

KROV has agreed to be the test station for what could be, says the man responsible for putting “Denise” on-air, the future of radio.

One of PURE’s best selling DAB radio sets, the PURE ONE Mini has had a make-over.
Series II of the portable device has been updated with “luxurious looks” including a satin-touch finish and remodelled satin chrome controls.

Peterborough launch football radio station

An online radio station operated by Peterborough United Football Club is launching this week.
The Posh Live, named after the nick-name of the club, starts ‘broadcasting’ at 1pm Thursday with a live phone-in.

BBC Radio 1 returns to SiriusXM.. almost

After suddenly disappearing from the satellite radio platform SiriusXM earlier this month, BBC Radio 1 is returning to the USA.
But only at selected times throughout the year for special events. At all other times, the station will be available online only.

Sir Jimmy Young returns to BBC Radio 2

Sir Jimmy Young is heading back to Western House for a special one-off programme on BBC Radio 2.
He’ll be teamed up with his friend and former colleague Ken Bruce for Sir Jimmy Young At 90, a one-hour show in celebration of his 90th birthday.
